The National Advanced School of Engineering is made up of above 500 students distributed into five Departments. Because of this significant number, it is clearly very difficult to attend to both individual and collective problems that students face throughout their stay at the NASEY.
As solution for a better centralisation of the complaints of students and their initiation to responsibility, an association was set up, to which all the students are member and through the executive bureau of which they should discuss with the administration.
The AEENSPY (by its French Acronym): Motivations and objectives
Unambiguously, the motivation of the association is to take into serious consideration the problems of each student so as guarantee the well-being of every single student.
In this light, the concrete priority objectives are: Improve the living environment of the student: as far as cleanliness is concerned through the cleansing of the campus, and as far as security is concerned through a systematic identity control at the school gates (so as to avoid the robbery of materials by unidentified visitors);
The intensification of the activities of the technology clubs (for the technical training of students) and clubs of common interest activities (Driving school, red cross, …) ;
Special care for minority groups, like Anglophones through the organisation of specialised lectures to the benefit of freshmen, so as that they can get used to the Francophones majority environment;
The promotion of Bilingualism through the reopening of the « English Club », to the benefit of Francophones;
The promotion of our know-how through open doors days;
The preparation of students to their future both in the students’ association and in the professional milieu, that is the Company;
The promotion of external partnerships both in the academic milieu and the professional milieu, so as to support our actions and enrich the framework of our reflection.
The executive bureau and the general structural organisation
To carry out these objectives, elections to nominate members of the one-year term executive bureau take place every year in November.
As concerns the structural aspect, the institutions of the students’ association are the following:
The executive bureau;
The congress;
The consultative council;
The Sport unit;
The communication unit;
The Junior Entreprise ;
The unit of prospecting and statistics;
The judicial unit…
Activities attached to the functioning of the AEENSPY
In addition to recording and solving students’ problems on a daily basis, other main activities which have been organised (or which are in the pipeline) are the following:
“Clean campus days” for cleanliness marked by the equipment of the campus with trash cans;
Cultural week of the school marked by technological exhibitions, conferences, as well as games and various shows;
Study trip for first year students which consist in visiting the important enterprises in Cameroon
Training seminars (on how to set up an enterprise, careers management, …) and various workshops (on the future of the students’ association, the BMD system, the search for fundings, …);
Various conferences (the University Free Zone, Youth and the fight against social plagues, …).
Finally, we try as much as possible, whenever need arises, to talk on behalf of students, to the hierarchical institutions of the school which are the Rectorate, the Ministry of Higher Education, and even other universities throughout the national territory.
